Quality and Product Care Policy
v2.0
Purpose. This policy sets Timberline's commitment to producing timber that meets the grade it is stamped with and to handling, storing and delivering product so it arrives in the condition the customer paid for.
1.Purpose
A grade stamp is a promise to the builder, the engineer and the certifier. Timberline will only stamp timber that meets the grade rules and will handle product so that the promise survives the trip to site.
2.Grading
Structural timber must be graded by trained graders to the visual stress grading rules or by the calibrated machine grader, and the grader identifier must be recorded for every pack. The Sawmill Manager will arrange an independent grade check on a sample of packs every week and record the result in the log yard register.
3.Drying
Timber must be dried to the moisture content range for its product group and verified with a calibrated moisture meter before it leaves the kiln. Charges that fail the moisture check must be held and re-dried or regraded.
4.Handling and storage
Packs must be built square on bearers, strapped and tagged before moving. Forklift operators must use the rated attachment and must not push packs across the ground. Packs stored outside must be covered or under roof, off the ground, and stacked no higher than the yard limit shown on the bay sign.
- Bearers at set spacing for every pack
- Tag on the same end of every pack in the bay
- No stacking of dry appearance product outside
- Damaged packs re-worked before sale
5.Customer claims
Any claim about grade, moisture, dimension or damage must be recorded in the customer orders system within one working day and investigated by the Merchandising Manager with the Sawmill Manager. Product that is confirmed out of specification will be replaced or credited and the cause recorded.
6.Review
This policy will be reviewed every two years or when grading standards change. Managers will report grade audit results and claims at the monthly operations meeting.
