The situation

What has happened

Crew A is moving to the eastern face of coupe MG-214 Kalangadoo North, a radiata pine clearfall with a harvester, a forwarder and a loader on the landing, plus one feller taking down edge trees that the harvester cannot reach. A streamside buffer runs along the western edge and was flagged last week. Overnight rain has softened the snig tracks and the fire danger rating is forecast Moderate with a rising north wind by afternoon. The Harvesting Supervisor, Jarrah Coulthard, has asked you to work through the pre-start with them, walk the buffer, and confirm the crew understands the exclusion zones around the machines after last week's near miss with the forwarder.

What to look for

Evidence guide

Look for a pre-start form where every field is completed with today's conditions, not copied from a previous day. The hazard entry must describe a real observable hazard with a practical control. The toolbox talk record must show the near miss lessons in the student's own words and an attendance list. Check that the student can explain the two tree length danger zone and the machine exclusion zone.

The student's evidence summary lists every record they created or changed in the systems named above, their notes and the tasks they ticked. Verify it against the deliverables and your own assessment tool.
